Condo taxes would be fair

I got my taxes this week and was shocked to find that my daughter’s taxes were $100 more than mine. She lives in a 1,700 sq. ft. house on one level located on a corner lot with all the services of St. Albert. I live in a side-by-side condo.

I got my taxes this week and was shocked to find that my daughter’s taxes were $100 more than mine.

She lives in a 1,700 sq. ft. house on one level located on a corner lot with all the services of St. Albert. I live in a side-by-side condo. I have 1,177 sq. ft. on the level with very little yard and I pay condo fees for all services except for garbage pickup, which I pay extra for. I back onto a green belt that is seldom cut so we are overrun with mice and other rodents. The land I sit on is less than half the size of my daughter’s, so the city is collecting twice the taxes for the same amount of land.

I talked to city assessment and was told my condo assessment went down but my taxes went up. I am a senior that lives alone on a fixed income and it won’t be long before my savings are all gone and I will have to sell.

I think St. Albert needs to look into condo taxes and see we don’t get the services that single family homes get and should be compensated for that.
