Summer is finally here

I’m sure the people of St. Albert all mark the return of summer in different ways. For me it’s witnessing the return of our local loon population. And I’m not talking about birds.

The Your Views section of the Gazette is the first thing I turn to when I read the paper. Twice a week I’ve got my fingers crossed that someone completely out of touch with reality will get their letter to the editor printed. I’ve been disappointed for a while now. No beaver haters, no cat haters, no fire pit haters. So I would like to thank Karen Paquette for her letter about the farmers’ market in our fair city. Now, for me, summer is officially here.

‘Horrific’ visit to the farmers’ market? Really? The last character that I recall expressing a similar dislike for both the sun and fresh air was Gollum. So there’s no shade at the market? When did St. Albert get moved to the equator? And when you’re talking with the chamber of commerce, maybe you could get them to commission a study on why airborne allergens seem to affect only the air at the farmers’ market and not the air in and around your house.

I won’t be completely negative though. We do have some common ground. My son suffers from a nut allergy as well. That’s why I carry an epi-pen with me all the time. So while I agree that my son eating a cookie with traces of peanuts could result in a trip to the nearest emergency room, in his case it would be to have my foot surgically removed from his rear end for taking something like that and eating it without asking.

Buy your child some long sleeve shirts, a hat, umbrella, some Benadryl and let him or her get out and enjoy the summer. And allow the rest of us to enjoy our Saturday stroll down St. Anne Street.
