Views about farmers' market not being family friendly 'appalling'

In response to “Market not family friendly,” I really hope that Ms. Paquette was writing facetiously.

In response to “Market not family friendly,” I really hope that Ms. Paquette was writing facetiously. It is not often that I respond to an article in the newspaper, but I was flabbergasted to read that someone would complain about such a fabulous event. My husband and I and our two year old son enjoyed an inexpensive pancake breakfast, lots of great music, (my son couldn’t get enough of the band) buskers, a free lunch compliments of our MP, chalk drawings and a bouncy castle. I ask what more could someone want as free entertainment and a family atmosphere? Throw in all of the great homemade/homegrown purchases and the feeling that you are supporting your neighbours in a great worthwhile endeavour.

To me the market epitomizes what we want to offer in St. Albert both to our residents and guests. I truly hope that the market organizers look at their numbers and the amount of smiling happy people as a sign of their success and not an “entitled mother.” When are some people going to realize that it is up to them to protect their child — i.e. a hat, sunscreen, perhaps a stroller with a top or even finding shade as we managed to. Society does not owe it to people to manage every little thing for them. I at least feel better knowing that even if the market was indoors someone would find something to complain about. Thank you to all who made the market a success. We will definitely go back!
