A St. Albert man was among five people arrested by Cochrane RCMP last week in relation to the thefts of catalytic converters.
On Dec. 12, the southern Alberta detachment responded to a complaint of a break-in in progress at an RV storage lot in Springbank, west of Calgary. Officers apprehended five suspects leaving the area. A search of their vehicle revealed four catalytic converters recently stolen off recreation vehicles during the break-and-enter.
Jared Hiebert, 47, of St. Albert faces charges along with Jan-Anne August, 29, of Calgary; Cory Davies, 44, of Calgary; Mikhail Loskutov, 28, of Calgary; and Jari Manner, 38, of Cochrane. Charges include theft over $5,000, mischief over $5,000, possessing break-in tools and contravening a COVID-19 health order.
Hiebert, Davies and August were released on conditions with a first court appearance set for January. Manner and Loskutov were remanded into custody and were expected to appear in court on Dec. 15.
