Author and Dragon’s Den personality David Chilton will speak at the third annual Regional Business Symposium in Morinville on June 20.

Chilton runs a financial planning business and publishing company and is best known for his personal finance books The Wealthy Barber and The Wealthy Barber Returns.

Deb Pare, marketing communications co-ordinator with the Town of Morinville, said Chilton was chosen as keynote speaker for his energy and knowledge on entrepreneurship.

“His experience with finances, whether it’s personal or businesses, he appeals to a very broad audience,” she said.

“And just with his renown, he is now on the Dragon’s Den, he is a very well-known speaker.”

The annual business symposium is organized by four municipalities – Morinville, Sturgeon County, Bon Accord and Gibbons – and sees about 400 attendees.

The goal of this year’s event is to provide information and expertise to help attendees to further the success of their own businesses.

Chilton’s keynote is only part of a full day of networking, sessions and panels on motivation, education and collaboration in the business world.

In the morning, Servus Credit Union branch manager Kim Moore will give a seminar outlining why “community involvement makes business sense.”

Her presentation is followed by a seminar by Brent Bushell from The Business Link, a non-for-profit organization that provides services to Alberta business startups. Bushell will speak on the future of entrepreneurship in Canada.

Lastly, Dar Schwanbeck from the Northern Alberta Business Incubator in St. Albert will speak on “lessons learnt from the street vendors of Peru.”

New during this year’s event will be the Regional Business Panel in the afternoon. The panel consists of representatives from four companies who will answer questions and share challenges and success stories about their business.

The symposium takes place on Thursday, June 20 from 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the Morinville Community Cultural Centre. Registration costs $75 per person and includes a copy of Chilton’s book The Wealthy Barber Returns.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.tixonthesqaure.ca or by calling the Centre at 780-939-7839.
