'Go home and stay home': Trudeau

On Monday morning, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau warned Canadians that stricter measures could be put in place to slow the spread of COVID-19 if they do not practise social distancing.

"We've all seen the pictures online of people who seem to think they're invincible. Well, you're not," he said.

"Enough is enough. Go home, and stay home. This is what we all need to be doing.”

Over the weekend, Trudeau said images circulated of people gathering in large groups at beaches, parks and parties. He said the people taking part are not only putting themselves at risk but also healthcare workers, the elderly and vulnerable populations.

"Please follow the recommendations of our public health officials. We have to trust them and we have to listen."

The Prime Minister is speaking to premiers later today to discuss how to prevent the spread of COVID-19 going forward. He said he has not ruled out enforcement options.

“We will look at different measures that could be necessary to enforce these measures. We’d rather not ... I can tell you that we haven’t taken anything off the table from the Emergencies Act, new and existing measures under the Quarantine Act,” Trudeau said.
