Province confirms BLESS platform funding

A popular bird-watching platform at Big Lake will be getting some more cash to spruce it up but this time it will be coming from the provincial government.

A popular bird-watching platform at Big Lake will be getting some more cash to spruce it up but this time it will be coming from the provincial government.

In a letter to Mayor Cathy Heron, Minister of Municipal Affairs Shaye Anderson announced on March 1 the platform overlooking Big Lake, together with the Lacombe Park building walkway, will be receiving roughly $1.16 million under the Municipal Sustainability Initiative grant. The platform, which was originally built in the mid-1990s, was shut down in June 2017 due to structural issues. Council decided to pitch in $342,900 in 2018 to repair the platform, work which is expected to be complete in February 2020.

It was unclear at the time of writing how much of the money will be going toward the Big Lake platform versus the walkway and what it will cover.
