Alberta second in Brick Tournament

Team Brick Alberta lost in a dramatic overtime finish against Connecticut Jr. Rangers at the Brick Invitational Hockey Tournament

On Sunday, the week-long tournament wrapped up with the Canadian home team losing in overtime to the American squad with a final score of 3-2.

Both teams won their conferences and came into the final with records of 7-0.

In the first period, Alberta’s Landon Dupont opened up the scoring to give the Canadian team the lead. The American squad didn’t waste time and caught up quickly, scoring two goals less than two minutes apart to end the first period ahead.

Both goalies were hot through the second and nobody was able to notch any points through the period.

Team Alberta’s Ben Harvey opened up the scoring early in the third, putting the two teams in a tie. They remained in a dead heat through the third and the game was forced into overtime.

The game-winning goal came from a shot from Rangers' Kaden McGregor and the puck slid past the goalie to allow Connecticut to go undefeated through the week and win the tournament.

Miners

The St. Albert Senior B Miners earned another win over the weekend.

On Sunday, the Miners beat out the Calgary Raiders with a final score of 15-3. The St. Albert squad blasted open the first period of scoring early in the game, notching a goal just over three minutes into gameplay.

The Raiders answered with a goal of their own less than two minutes later, putting the two teams in an early tie. But the Miners blasted forward scoring six unanswered goals through the rest of the first period.

The Miners wasted no time in the second period and scored their first goal 16 seconds into the period and followed with another within the first minute. By the end of the period the Miners had pulled ahead by nine points.

In the third the Miners shut out the Raiders and ended the game with a final score of 15-3, leaving them in second place in the league with only two games left before playoffs start.

The St. Albert Senior B Miners play at the Go Auto Arena this Saturday at 6 p.m. against the Edmonton Senior B Warriors.
