St. Albert man charged in Wabamun, Vegreville robberies

Darin Edward Jenkins will appear in court later this month

A St. Albert man has been charged with robbery and firearms offences relating to armed robberies that occurred last summer in Wabamun.

Darin Edward Jenkins, 37, was arrested on May 3. He faces two counts each of robbery with a firearm, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, using a firearm while committing an offence, pointing a firearm, and disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence. He also faces four counts of possessing a firearm while prohibited.

Parkland RCMP said in a June 4 press release that Jenkins and Andrew James Kemp, 32, of Edmonton, were both arrested and charged in relation to two robberies that happened in Wabamun last summer. On July 3, 2018, at around 11:07 p.m., three masked suspects carrying two firearms robbed the Wabamun Hotel Bar.

The robbery triggered "a lengthy and complex criminal investigation" by the Parkland Serious Crimes Unit, Edmonton RCMP General Investigation Section, RCMP Central District Crime Reduction Unit and Edmonton Police Services, the press release stated.

Jenkins and Kemp were arrested by police in relation to that robbery as well as an armed robbery that occurred at the Garden Inn in Vegreville on June 13, 2018.

A third male suspect involved in the Wabamun hotel robbery has not been identified.

Both Jenkins and Kemp were remanded into custody and have appearances scheduled in Vegreville provincial court for June 24, as well as in Stony Plain provincial court on June 26.
