A student from Muriel Martin School had a strange encounter this week that is raising some concern.

The Grade 6 student was on his way to school Thursday morning when a man in a black SUV approached him and asked him if he wanted to get in the vehicle for some candy.

Const. Janice Schoepp with the St. Albert RCMP said the incident is a little troubling, but police don’t know if there was any malicious intent.

She said the boy rebuffed the offer and told school officials when he arrived.

“He did exactly the right thing.”

The boy had only a limited description of the man as having a beard and dark glasses, but he couldn’t say anything about his race or age.

Muriel Martin sent a letter home to parents on Thursday afternoon advising them of the incident.

Schoepp said anyone with any information about the man or who can shed some light on the situation should contact the RCMP at 780-458-7700.
