Art helps make city beautiful

I certainly support our great St.

I certainly support our great St. Albert Food Bank and donate to our local Salvation Army for the great work they do to help people in need, but I don’t think that precludes the city putting money into beautiful buildings like our city hall or purchasing magnificent pieces of art like the sculptures on loan next to the building. We need beauty, art and culture as well as the basic necessities. St. Albert has the ability to provide both.

My six-year-old grandson took a trip with his mother to visit the statues recently. He spent a great deal of time looking at the detail of the sculptures, touching the different textures and commenting on what he thinks each sculpture is and what it means. His favourite piece is the mother holding the child with the bison encircling it. His mother explained to him that the statues were on loan and might have to leave. He said if he could he would buy them. He thinks they help make our city beautiful.
