GST should be included in the price

How much does it cost? How much does it really cost? Isn’t it about time that the advertised price of goods and services be forced by law to include the GST? How much longer will the law permit what amounts to “false advertising?”

Consider the posted price for gasoline at 96.9 cents per litre. If service stations were permitted to only post the price of gasoline without the fuel tax plus GST, the posted price might only be 50 cents! Poor suckers filling up might put in $30 at the pump, but then end up paying over $58 at the counter! To be proper (as all posted prices should be), the posted price of 96.9 cents is the true total cost because all taxes are included.

Would it be asking too much for stores to post the proper price of their goods? Some things are taxed while others are not and as customers we too often have no idea what the exact cost of goods will be.

Would it do any good if I’d send a copy of this letter to my federal member of Parliament and also to my provincial MLA? Would they finally make the GST mandatory in the posted price of goods and services? Should they not have done so long ago?
