Gun registry gives the good guys another tool

Why do we need a gun registry? When properly implemented it will: • Provide police with this advice before approaching a home or vehicle.

Why do we need a gun registry? When properly implemented it will:

• Provide police with this advice before approaching a home or vehicle. As a police officer would you (or son/daughter) want to know that the resident of a domestic dispute has several guns?

• Police will be able to remove unregistered guns. Consider an officer searching a drug house or a fence. Without a registry (providing the guns are stored properly) what right does an officer have to remove a gun? I agree with many that have said the criminals will not register their guns. Good — one more tool for the good guys.

The objections to gun registry has largely been cost. If the provincial governments would endorse the plan instead of trying to garner votes, the costs would be greatly reduced. How difficult would it be to add an item to the vehicle registry? Do you own gun(s)? How many? Serial numbers? Even if information is missing it will still serve the purpose. In addition there would be an advantage in linking the vehicle and gun information as the vehicle information is already accessible to the police via the licence plate.

We should support our police officers.
