Mayor and city council to blame for woeful plight of river

I urge all St. Albert residents to take a walk along the Sturgeon River in downtown St. Albert.

I urge all St. Albert residents to take a walk along the Sturgeon River in downtown St. Albert. Do you see the dead water, the garbage, smell the odour? Then please ask yourself why has the city council and mayor allowed the degradation of a river?

The Sturgeon River today is a blight on the citizens of St. Albert. The river is devoid of oxygen because our elected officials have allowed silt to build up, have allowed toxic seepage from storm sewers and the old dump. It is as toxic as the oilsands to Canada geese. The river needs the sides strengthened, dredged and shocked and the water levels artificially maintained — in short a ‘river walk.’

Please everyone, do not vote for previous people on council. They have had their turn to manage this river blight. Some candidates have been councillors for decades. Vote for the river’s fate.
