Our troops, not Omar Khadr, deserve our support

It amazes me that people stand up for Omar Khadr when his family in Toronto has admitted publicly that they are in favour of the Taliban.

Too bad we cannot ask the American soldier that was killed what he would think of all this support for Khadr and what that soldier would think about the people who are calling for Khadr to be brought back to Canada and to let our courts deal with him. In case you haven’t noticed our courts are busy enough — let the United States deal with him and others of his ilk. Regardless of whether he is Canadian or not, obviously the Americans know Khadr did something wrong, so I wouldn’t jump so quickly to support him. Remember an American soldier lost his life, so Khadr spent eight years in solitary. Too bad. That soldier never had a minute to enjoy the rest of his life before he died.

Wake up people. This is a strange and terrorist type of world we now have to deal with. If our soldiers weren’t shielding us from the killing field, would we still be free and safe? I say think of that the next time you might want to show sympathy for someone who was caught red-handed where a United States’ soldier died and also have families who live here and admittedly support the Taliban and who knows what else.

Too bad we cannot get Canadians in a lot of instances to back our soldiers when they return from a tour or a war and are so easily cast aside and forgotten when they come home injured or their family receives them back dead. There are so many stories of lack of support for our forces when they need it and the fight still goes on here in Canada to see that the Forces receive their pension and not have it clawed back when they reach 65 after all they have done for this country!!! Contact [email protected] to correspond with a retired military man who has been fighting over five years for fair pension treatment for our veterans and the RCMP. If you don’t believe me, look up Bill C-201 through the web, which is what we are fighting for.

Just remember the next time some crisis needs to be handled, is this Khadr family going to go and do the job for you or will it be our forces that have to go? And then they have to come home and fight for a pension not to be clawed back when they reach 65 after they gave the best years of their life to their country. And please don’t respond that they signed on for this job because if every soldier had not signed on, who would do it?

So pardon me, if I have no sympathy for the Khadrs of this world and any supporters of the Taliban and any other foreign off-the-wall groups.
