Protesting the cruelty of abortion is critical to our humanity

In response to Alicia Marangoni’s letter of June 29, “Young children should not be inundated with religious ideology” (Gazette, June 29, page 13)

In response to Alicia Marangoni’s letter, “Young children should not be inundated with religious ideology” (St. Albert Gazette, June 29, page 13) where she argues it’s wrong for Catholic schools to take school children to observe protests against abortion:

Ms Marangoni has it wrong, it’s not the protesters that are ideological. The whole western world recognizes rights for prenatal children except for two countries: Canada and Haiti. Polls over and over have consistently shown that the large majority of Canadians do NOT agree with the destruction of children up to the moment of birth. Yet, the Canadian government refuses to govern itself by democratic principles or by the example of the rest of the world.

Ms Marangoni is wrong, the ideologues are not the pro life protesters but those who refuse to protect the weak, uphold the democratic will and who ignore the example of the rest of the world. These ideologues need to be held accountable and children should be shown that protesting cruelty is critical to being human.
