Red Willow Trail a joy, not an obstacle course

I strongly disagree with William Little's statement in his June 12 letter to the editor: “I avoid the trails because it is not a fun place to ride and I recognize that it is too crowded and dangerous for the pedestrians.

I love riding the Red Willow Park Trails as fast as my 60-year-old legs can pedal. I ride all over St. Albert throughout the summer. Sometimes the trails are a bit busy but that is easily manageable — just slow down and ring your bell. I do ride on sidewalks, particularly on busy streets where there is no parking lane, like Hebert Road or Sir Winston Churchill Avenue. My rule for sidewalk riding is the pedestrian always has the right of way so I will slow down, stop, go around, whatever it takes. It's not a problem. The joy of being outside with the trees, the birds, the wild roses, the river, far outweighs any minor inconvenience of sharing the trails with other uses.

One note: dog owners, please comply with St. Albert's requirement to leash your dog on the paths. An unleashed dog is a safety hazard to other uses and to itself.

Thank you to the City of St. Albert for setting up Red Willow Park.
