School board races are for everyone

Think school board elections don’t matter to you? Think again. School board elections are just as important to Alberta’s voters as council elections because public education matters to everyone.

Think school board elections don’t matter to you? Think again.

School board elections are just as important to Alberta’s voters as council elections because public education matters to everyone. Educated citizens are the foundation of prosperous economies, vibrant cultures and civil democracies. Educated citizens are happier, healthier and they make better neighbours.

So what kind of children do you want to share your community with? What kind of citizens do you want them to become?

Your taxes shouldn’t be your only contribution to the public school system. Public education needs the community’s resources to function but the community’s wisdom is what makes it really flourish. Your voice matters – it’s in your best interest to speak up and get the most out of your investment in the public school system.

Between now and election day on Oct. 18, you will have the chance to get involved. Candidates will be campaigning in your community, looking for your vote and listening to your views. Find out what kind of citizens and what kind of community they want to lead us towards. And on election day, Oct. 18, please remember to vote!

Patty Dittrick, President, Public School Boards’ Association of Alberta
