Seniors deserve answers about club reserve funds

I, as one of many members of the St. Albert Senior Citizens’ Club, have spent many hours over the years baking for bake sales, sewing, crocheting, knitting as well as painting and ceramics for our annual fall fairs.

I, as one of many members of the St. Albert Senior Citizens’ Club, have spent many hours over the years baking for bake sales, sewing, crocheting, knitting as well as painting and ceramics for our annual fall fairs. This, in addition to the thousands of volunteer hours spent fundraising by many, many members over the years.

Three years ago, the St. Albert Senior Citizens’ Club had a respectable six-figure sum in their reserve fund. Now, the club is in the red and lost money each of these years. Where did our reserve fund go?

I feel abused, used, misled, fooled, cheated and saddened that a club, which I have enjoyed for many years no longer has the credibility it once had. I attended the April 9 annual general meeting and it is not clear to me how the reserve fund was spent. I thought that I had been volunteering my time and talents to fundraise for a new building. I am proud of the volunteer efforts made by myself and fellow members … but, for what?

Is this how we honour St. Albert seniors? I call it abuse of seniors.
