Seniors' voices will be heard

As a member of the St. Albert Senior Citizens’ Club for several years, attending the annual general meetings is a priority, the most recent being April 9 this year.

As a member of the St. Albert Senior Citizens’ Club for several years, attending the annual general meetings is a priority, the most recent being April 9 this year.

A few years ago the slogans were “Moving forward” and “A time for change.”

Change for board placement — giving the nominating committee the power to veto nominations — the reasons are confidential. Nominations from the floor — not allowed. Elections not required. Democracy — moving forward — I don’t think so!

Bylaws — that’s another story.

With an eye to the future, seniors had worked to maintain a reserve fund, term deposits and had event purchased a bus for seniors. Three or four years ago we were not operating in the red — what happened?

Can we achieve this good standing again? That depends.

News flash! Oxygen to seniors’ brains has not been cut off. We will not be sedated at the door.

Our voices need and will be heard!
