St. Albertans welcoming, friendly and helpful

My family and I have lived in St. Albert for a little over four years as well.

My family and I have lived in St. Albert for a little over four years as well. We are from Ontario and Nova Scotia, and the many residents we have encountered here, save for a few, have been welcoming, friendly and have helped us integrate into our new community.

I find the letter to the editor entitled “Our St. Albert experience hasn’t been a good one” (Gazette, Your Views, Feb. 13) to be full of exaggerations and generalizations, which makes the writer sound like a very angry person.

Is it possible that it’s your outlook that needs to change, not the attitude of what you say is the entire city around you? Maybe look inward before pointing your judgmental finger outward. St. Albert is not full of rude and obnoxious attackers as you so rudely and hypocritically said.

Yes, every community has some bad apples, but try a more positive outlook and you might be surprised that your viewpoint will change.

For the record: If you were my neighbour and your dog was barking at 6 a.m., I’m going to have something to say about it.

Also, if I saw my neighbour shovelling snow onto the road, regardless of what the bylaw says, I’m going to have something to say about it, and I hope I don’t have to explain the logic there.

Finally, it sounds like you left your dog out in the extreme cold and forgot about him for way longer than you should have, so I’d have something to say about that, too. I don’t believe it's OK for these people to be constantly yelling at you (which I believe is an exaggeration but is how you make it sound) but you are not blameless here and this certainly isn’t indicative of an entire community of people.

Gandhi said “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” Try living in a more considerate, positive and loving way, and you may just see that come back to you. Maybe you need to get out more. I’m just saying!
