Storefront library a good compromise

My first letter to the editor in 34 years of living in St. Albert because I’m getting tired and not a little bit exasperated at the complaints from people decrying council’s decision to fund a storefront library.

I understand that over 60 per cent of people voted against funding a new standalone library building at a cost of more than $20 million. But this means over a third of respondents voted for it. Does this really need to be a “winner take all” exercise?

Are we all so sure that we each understand completely, and have the absolute correct answer to, questions like this so that there is no room at all to try and understand and at least partially accommodate views different from ours? Isn’t that what a good community would do?

I believe this is what council is trying to do, and even though I also voted against the funding for a new standalone library, I want council to know that this resident supports the decision to fund the new storefront library.
