Taxes unfair to condo owners

Writing about municipal tax increases could become an annual event for me and the letters may sound very similar year-to-year. I live in a condo development in Lacombe Park. My assessment in 2008 was essentially the same as it is now.

I live in a condo development in Lacombe Park. My assessment in 2008 was essentially the same as it is now. The taxes, however, are up 29.8 per cent in two years.

Condo owners have the same mill rate as private property owners, but unlike other private property owners in the city, pay for our own roadway snow removal, street cleaning and maintenance, streetlight operation and maintenance as well as boulevard maintenance.

Large tax increases are obviously one gripe, but the unequal treatment for delivery of services begs for some council candidates who can understand and address this inequity. The current crop sure don't.
