Unfair to call Gazette's coverage of MUC biased

letter-sta

During Monday's council meeting, several comments were made that the Gazette’s coverage of the MUC was negatively biased against the MUC and this adversely affected council's vote. It is totally unfair and unprofessional to call out the Gazette as being biased. I believe they may have written editorials about the MUC but the bulk of their coverage was simply publishing letters written by us, the taxpaying public, one advertisement paid for by members of the public and several reporters' articles about the MUC.

The Gazette has provided many kids with their first paying job as delivery carriers, they support our businesses with local advertising, (sometimes with too many flyers), they cover every local sport, endless community events throughout the year, keep us informed about both local and regional news, provide information about upcoming events and keep us informed about our local political activities, etc. etc. etc.

The Gazette, since it was founded in 1961, has been recognized with numerous awards for being the best local newspaper in Alberta and best local newspaper in the country. Keep in mind our council spent $63,000 of our tax dollars promoting their biased view of the MUC, we residents just provided our views that were unbiasedly published by the Gazette.

The Gazette is a great asset to our community and should be supported, not singled out in a negative way.
