Visiting Lois Hole Centennial Provincial Park with your dog

letter-sta

Dogs are welcome at Lois Hole Centennial Provincial Park and other provincial parks, as long as they are kept under control at all times. Dogs and pets in general, must be on a leash no more than two metres in length and must not be allowed to disturb or endanger wildlife or people.

Provincial parks and recreation areas preserve natural communities of plants and animals. Therefore, it is important that pets are kept on leash to avoid these serious situations:
• Ground nesting birds, fawns and other young animals being killed or injured.
• Pets being injured by wildlife such as skunks, porcupines, coyotes, moose and bears who defend themselves if threatened.
• Your off-leash pet chasing an agitated bear towards other people or leading it back to you.

Not all park visitors appreciate dogs. Some people may be allergic, fearful or resentful of them. Some dog owners are surprised by the protective nature of their pet when strangers approach them in the park. Please hold your leashed dog firmly when approaching visitors in the park. In December 2019, a park visitor was approached by several off-leash dogs, with no owner in sight, resulting in the park visitor being bitten by one of the dogs.

Like other laws enforced by Conservation Officers under the Provincial Parks Act, violations of pet regulations can result in fines. If your dog is considered by a Conservation Officer to be a hazard or an annoyance to people or wildlife, you may be required to remove the animal from the park, and may be charged and/or evicted.

Please do your part to make the park safe and enjoyable for all visitors, by keeping your dog on leash and under control at all times. Two dog waste bag dispensers have been installed at either end of the parking lot in Lois Hole Centennial Provincial Park for your convenience. Please pick up after your pets.

If you have any questions or a complaint about a dog while visiting the park, please report it to the park district office at 780-960-8170.

Enjoy your visit to Lois Hole Centennial Provincial Park.
