What were Albertans thinking?

After seeing the results of the provincial election on April 16, I am left wondering: what were Albertans thinking? Why did you elect a political party, the UCP, who has been in the spotlight so often, and for less than desirable reasons, and whose leader, Jason Kenney, got his position by questionable means?

Not only that, Jason Kenney's leadership campaign is being investigated by the RCMP. Does any of this not concern you? It should have beforehand. Also, Jason Kenney's budget plans simply do not make any sense. He wants to cut corporate tax rates even further, during an oil price slump that started five years ago. Where will he get the revenue to maintain essential services that we all need? There will be cuts coming. It's the only result that can happen.

Jason Kenney also thinks he can help Alberta's troubled oil industry. How can he do that? Oil prices are not going to go up, at anytime soon. Also, why did Jason Kenney do nothing about helping to get a pipeline built, that went to the B.C coast, when he was in the CPC, and the price of oil was vastly higher than it is now?

Then, Jason Kenney wants to trick people into thinking he can control equalization payments to other provinces. He thinks that Alberta writes a big cheque to other provinces. It does not work like that.

Furthermore, Jason Kenney wants to challenge Ottawa over the carbon tax. How much will this cost? Despite this, Jason Kenney uses another term to state that he supports the carbon tax, and uses the word levy.

Also, Jason Kenney wants to turn off the taps to B.C, yet claims to have strong support for oil-related jobs. This is quite a contradiction. Alberta still is reeling from the fiscal recklessness and negligence, by the Alberta PCs, in the post-Peter Lougheed era. It is obvious that Jason Kenney and the UCP will not make things any better. It is too late now. Albertans got the government they wanted, and have to live with the consequences.
