Young children should not be inundated with religious ideology

In response to Luke Fevin’s letter “School Trip to March for Life Unacceptable” (St. Albert Gazette, May 29):

Luke, I applaud you. Thank you for standing up to address what is definitely a misuse of public education funds. It is unfortunate that some supporters and affiliates of Catholic education can’t see beyond their position of privilege or understand that it is wrong to teach children to judge others for something they clearly can’t understand the magnitude of as adolescents. Religious institutions have an unhealthy obsession with abortions and controlling women and we are long past due for that to stop.

Freedom of religion is also freedom from religion. Children should not be inundated with religious ideology before they’re old enough to have a chance to understand what is being taught to them.

Of course everyone is free to believe or have faith in what they like but observing that at home and church should be more than enough. Let every child receive a judgment-free, all-inclusive and accepting education at school.
