2021 City of St. Albert Election Coverage

Stoyko said that when it comes to the city's budget, he would like to see more attention paid to distinguishing between what he described as its wants and needs.

Heron said she wants to focus on developing more defined climate targets for the city, revitalizing the downtown core, and protecting the Sturgeon River from development.

Jennifer Cote said transparency and community engagement would be her main priorities if she was elected as councillor.

In addition to supporting growth, Wes Brodhead said ongoing reconciliation work will also be a priority for him if re-elected, highlighting the healing gardens, as well as council’s past work in engaging Indigenous citizens.

A sixth St. Albert resident has joined the race for councillor in the upcoming municipal election this fall.

Change in nomination rules, dissatisfaction with the last council in 2017, and COVID-19 were identified as possible reasons for the low turnout so far this summer.

Many say the job’s hefty time requirement could act as a barrier for those who decide to pursue the role.

"I'm really torn about running again. I would actually like to run again, but I just don't think I can make that commitment."
