Morinville Fire Chief Brad Boddez said his department sent 12 members and two fire trucks to help around 9 p.m. last Thursday. The Citadel Mews West fire was in full force when they arrived, and firefighters knew they were in it for the "long haul."

“I feel like we were just doing what we had to do, because no one else was helping. I don't think we deserve any extra recognition for that. I feel that I did it because that's what was right."

Evacuees will need longer-term accommodation, as units in the complex will not be available for two years or more during construction phase, said MLA Dale Nally.

“I saw the smoke. I pulled up and oriented myself where his suite would be and then I panicked. His suite was almost ground zero, except on the fourth floor.”
