U18 AAA Cardinals

This weekend’s homestand for the St. Albert Cardinals in the Norwest U18 AAA Baseball League consists of three games at Legion Memorial Park.

Today the Cardinals (8-1) play the East Central Bulls (0-8) at 9 a.m. and the Fort McMurray Oil Giants (2-5) at 6 p.m. and Sunday’s start time is 3 p.m. against the Calgary Cubs (3-2).

The 2018 Tier 1 provincial champions and fourth-place finishers at nationals have won six straight after losing 6-4 to the Parkland Twins (9-0) May 9 in Spruce Grove.

U13 AAA Cardinals

The renovated U13 diamond at Legion Memorial Park will be christened this weekend as the St. Albert Cardinals make their home debut.

The first-place Cardinals (9-2) in the Baseball Alberta U13 AAA League are up to bat today against the Okotoks Dawgs (6-0) at 12 noon and 3 p.m.

Sunday the teams play again 9 a.m. and the 3 p.m. game for the Cardinals is against the Northwest Prairie Pirates (4-5).

The two losses for the Cardinals were 10-0 against Okotoks on May 11 in Fort McMurray and 6-5 Sunday against the Pirates in Lloydminster to end an eight-game winning streak.

Thursday’s score between the 2018 Tier I provincial champion Parkland Twins (4-9) in Spruce Grove was unavailable at press time.

The Cardinals have seven returnees on the roster from last year’s silver medallists at provincials and U13 westerns.

Junior AAA Cardinals

The St. Albert Cardinals play the Edmonton Padres in Sunday’s doubleheader in the Baseball Alberta Junior AAA League.

Game times are 2:30 and 5:30 p.m. at Footz Field.

The Cardinals (4-1) are ranked first and the Padres (2-2) are tied for second in the five-team division.

The second win in three games for the Cardinals against the U21 provincial champion Innisfail Merchants (2-2) was Sunday’s 6-5 decision at Castledowns Sports Fields.

Last year in league play, the Cardinals (16-6) and Merchants (10-6) finished first and third, respectively, and in the provincial final at Innisfail the Merchants beat the Cardinals 13-7.

Senior AA Cardinals

Tuesday the senior AA St. Albert Cardinals host the Edmonton Primeaus in the North Central Alberta Baseball League.

First pitch is 7:15 p.m. at Legion Memorial Park.

The Cardinals were 2-1-1 before Friday’s game against the Parkland Twins (0-4) in Spruce Grove and the score was unavailable at press time.

The Primeaus (3-2) are coming off two consecutive losses.
